Dental insurance is a product that is in a lot of demand and there are several differences amongst the products available on the market today. Just like major medical, dental insurance can be an HMO, PPO, Limited Benefit, or Discount plan with different deductibles, co-pays, maximum annual benefits, and provider networks for each of them. Many plans, though not all of them, follow the following pattern:
Preventative Benefits – these are things like your semi-annual cleanings and check-ups with the dentist. These services typically take effect immediately upon purchasing the dental insurance.
Basic Benefits – these benefits generally have some kind of waiting period and include services such as getting a cavity filled or getting a tooth removed.
Major Benefits – the waiting periods for these benefits can typically be six month to a year long and include benefits such as a crown or fixed bridge.
These categories are defined by each company and not all dental insurance works the same way. We want to make sure you understand your insurance and answer any questions you might have and ensure that the plan fits with the goals you are trying to achieve.
